Falgun 21. Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the cost of this year’s election is estimated at around Rs 31 billion.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday during her visit to Nawalpur to attend a program organized by the National Service Corps, Prime Minister Karki said the government is actively working to ensure that the election is held on Falgun 21 as scheduled.
Responding to questions about rumors of a possible election delay, she said, “The election will not be postponed. Why should it be? Around Rs 31–32 billion is being spent at this time. This level of expenditure does not occur in every election. The cost is mainly for addressing shortages in various areas and for managing physical infrastructure and essential materials. Assistance is also coming from different countries, which would have been used elsewhere if this situation had not arisen.”
Prime Minister Karki emphasized that the election will be held under any circumstances and that power will be handed over to a new government after new representatives are elected. She added that even if the election cannot be conducted in the first phase due to unforeseen reasons, it will be completed in a second phase.
She also noted that in Himalayan districts, if cold weather creates difficulties, voters will be transported to accessible locations using available vehicles to ensure the election takes place.
Prime Minister Karki reiterated that the government remains serious and vigilant to ensure a peaceful and fair election.
