Backlash grows over alleged obscenity and double-meaning content
The newly released song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the upcoming Bollywood film ‘KD: The Devil’ has sparked controversy soon after its release. Following strong public backlash and legal complaints, the song has been removed from YouTube.
Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt feature in the song, which has been accused of promoting obscenity. The lyrics and visuals have drawn sharp criticism across social media platforms.
Meanwhile, the All Indian Cine Workers Association has raised strong objections and written to Prasoon Joshi, the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification. The association stated that such vulgar and double-meaning content is unacceptable in Indian cinema.
Users criticized the song as “vulgar” and “offensive” soon after its release, prompting the makers to take it down within a day. Currently, the video appears as “private” on YouTube. Nora Fatehi has also removed the video from her Instagram account.
The controversy has drawn reactions from figures in both the entertainment and sports industries. Singer Armaan Malik called it a “new low in songwriting,” while former cricketer Harbhajan Singh also expressed strong disapproval of the content.
Legal pressure is also mounting. The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the filmmakers over the use of objectionable language. Additionally, a social activist has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police Cyber Cell, accusing the song of spreading obscenity and demanding action against the lyricist, director, and music composer.
The song is an item number from ‘KD: The Devil’, featuring Nora Fatehi in a ghaghra-choli outfit. Its hook step, involving the use of her veil (pallu), had quickly gone viral—fueling both attention and criticism.
However, there has been no official response so far from the film’s producers, Sanjay Dutt, or Nora Fatehi regarding the controversy.
