Kathmandu, 18 Magh – The Progressive Democratic Party (PRALOPA) does not have candidates in Gorkha–1 and Gorkha–2. To decide whom to support in Gorkha, PRALOPA has formed a three-member political dialogue committee led by district in-charge Yan Prasad Bhatt.
According to party leaders, PRALOPA is holding talks with parties including the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Nepali Communist Party (NCP). In Gorkha–2, former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, the party’s patron, was initially a candidate. Before withdrawing his candidacy, he met with NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on 9 Magh to discuss a possible electoral alliance.
The details of the meeting between Prachanda and Dr. Bhattarai have not been disclosed. However, Dr. Bhattarai’s goodwill is being sought by candidates in both Gorkha constituencies.
PRALOPA and Labor Culture Party
PRALOPA leader Sudan Kirati has supported former Dharan mayor and Labor Culture Party chairman Hark Sampang in Sunsari–1 and Dhruvraj Rai in Bhojpur. Dhruvraj is also a Labor Culture Party candidate. PRALOPA does not have candidates in Sunsari–1 or Bhojpur.
In the 2079 elections, Kirati defeated Sherdhan Rai of UML in Bhojpur with the support of Congress and NCP (Unified Socialist) by 2,329 votes. However, it is unclear how Labor Culture Party will support PRALOPA this time.
UML–PRALOPA Alliance
UML and PRALOPA have reached an agreement for an electoral alliance. On 11 Magh, they agreed to focus the alliance on Karnali Province.
Under the agreement, UML will support PRALOPA candidates Janardan Sharma in Rukum West and Sandip Pun in Rukum East. PRALOPA will support UML candidates in most Karnali districts, except Humla and Jumla, and in the old Rapti region.
In Rukum West, a total of 12 candidates are contesting. UML candidate Nandarama Devkota has withdrawn his nomination to support Janardan Sharma. Other candidates include those from Congress, NCP, and RSP.
NCP–Janamorcha Alliance
In Baglung, the Rastriya Janamorcha and Nepali Communist Party have formed an alliance. Krishna Adhikari of Janamorcha is contesting in Baglung–1, and Gyananath Gaire of NCP in Baglung–2.
In the previous election, Janamorcha received 4,986 proportional votes, Maoist Center 2,857, and NCP (Unified Socialist) 482 in Baglung–1. This time, candidates from Congress, UML, and RSP are also contesting in both constituencies.
UML–Rastriya Prajatantra Party Dialogue
In Rupandehi–2, Rastriya Prajatantra Party candidate Karvika Thapa initially filed her candidacy but later withdrew due to constitutional requirements. Other parties are attempting to coordinate support from Rastriya Prajatantra Party votes in this area.
According to RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, the party has yet to make formal decisions on Rupandehi–2 and other areas.
Unusual Alliance in Manang
In the Himalayan district of Manang, after UML and RPP candidates withdrew, only three candidates remain. For the 21 Falgun elections, candidates from Nepali Congress, Nepali Communist Party, and Mongol National Organization are contesting.
Leaders say Congress and NCP are seeking alliances with UML, RSP, and RPP. RPP spokesperson Shrestha says the party has not yet decided on the Manang constituency.
